How to Take Care of Your Skin This Rainy Season

Sure it’s no news that we are in the rainy season (abi rain no reach una side?!).

And as expected, the weather has been extremely cold.

This has sentenced us to days of wearing sweater and nights snuggled under our blankets. But more importantly (at least to us here at BeauCrest), this weather negatively affects our skin’s health.

It makes our skin oilier or drier (depending on your skin), irritates sensitive skin, triggers allergies and can cause fungal and bacterial skin infections.

This is why it is very important that you take extra care of your skin during the rainy season. Giving your skin the proper care shields it from the negative effects of being exposed to this extreme weather condition.

I will be sharing skincare tips that will help keep your skin glowing and healthy throughout this season. You might be familiar with some of these tips, but I advise strongly that you put them to practice, especially if you have been ignoring them before.

How to Care For Your Skin in The Rainy Season

  1. Stay hydrated

Constant rainfall does not automatically mean that your skin would stay hydrated.

Because of the humid conditions caused by rain, you might sweat a lot. This expels moisture from your skin and makes it dry.

Humid conditions can also make your skin oily.

If your skin doesn’t have enough moisture, it begins to look pale and dull. So, I advise that you drink a lot of water and moisturize.

Drink at least eight glasses of water every day. This hydrates your skin from the inside out. Applying a good moisturizer gives your skin the moisture it needs to glow.

  1. Stay dry

Staying dry does not mean you shouldn’t moisturize or take care of your dry skin.

Let me explain…

It is easy to get fungal infections during the rainy season. And this occurs mostly when your skin is wet.

Wet skin is a good breeding ground for fungal infections. So, try as much as you can to stay dry.

If you get beaten by the rain, take a bath immediately you get home, towel-dry and apply a moisturizer.

Also, do not keep on a wet cloth for any reason. Immediately you get home, take it off. This keeps the rain off your skin and prevents fungal infections.

  1. Stay away from makeup

Most ladies do not like to hear this, but it is the sacrifice you have to pay – at least for this period.

Your skin needs to breathe. Piling layers of makeup during the day in this humid weather gives room for bacterial invasion.

If you must wear makeup, keep it very simple and light. Also, make sure you clean off all your makeup at night to avoid bacterial infection on your skin.

  1. Stay cleansed

If you do not pay much attention to cleansing your skin, you should now. Make sure you cleanse your skin at least three times a day.

This removes excess oil or dirt that might clog your skin pores and cause acne. Like I said earlier, your skin might get oilier during the rainy season, which makes it easier for dirt and dust to stick on your skin.

You do not want excess oil giving you breakouts.

  1. Stay toned

Aunties that do not have a toner, now is the time to get one.

One of the functions of a toner is: it helps to balance out the pH level of your skin. So, if your skin is oily, it brings it back to normal.

For a period where your skin is bound to get oily, a toner helps to control the oil on your skin from becoming excess.

If your skin goes the other way and gets extremely dry, a toner always helps to get your skin to normal.

  1. Stay sun-protected

Some people deceive themselves with the lie that sunscreens are not needed during the rainy season.

You need your sunscreen always. Even on a cloudy day, ultraviolet rays still radiate. And if we are being honest, the sun still shines even on rainy days. It just might not be noticeable as always. As long as the sun is out, your skin is at risk.

Do not step out of the house without your sunscreen for any reason.

  1. Stay exfoliated

More than ever, you need to exfoliate your skin.

If you normally ignore exfoliation, please don’t during this season.

Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells from your skin surface and stimulate the growth of new and healthy skin cells.

This way, you can be sure your skin stays healthy and glowing.

  1. Stay open to home remedies

There are home remedies that help to keep your skin glowing during the rainy season. They keep your skin healthy and reduce the risk of infection

You can try mixing one egg white, one teaspoon of honey and few drops of lemon juice. Apply the mix to your face. Leave it on for about 15 minutes before washing off.

This helps to prevent dull skin while the honey also moisturizes your skin.

Apart from this, you can mash an apple and mix it with five tablespoons of milk and few drops of your favorite essential oil. Leave it on your face for 15 minutes and then, wash off.

  1. Stay true to your skincare routine

This is not really particular to rainy season, but it is important nonetheless. No matter the weather condition or what your skin is exposed to, a good skincare routine is your skin’s getaway card from skin blemishes.

As always, cleanse your face with a beauty soap, apply a toner, moisturize, apply an eye cream followed by a skin treatment serum and then apply your sunscreen.

This is the only sure way to safeguard your skin from whatever damage that might happen to your skin.

In conclusion,

Taking care of your skin during the rainy season is very important.

This is the wrong time to ignore your skin. It needs more care than ever, to prevent infections from occurring.

Also, extreme weather conditions can cause reactions that might affect your skin beyond normal.

Make sure you read through carefully and apply the tips I have given. If you do, you can go through this season rest assured that your skin will stay healthy and glowing.
