What to Do When You First Notice a Pimple

No matter how you try to keep your skin fresh and beautiful, there are days you wake up and notice that a pimple is right on your face.

The same face you take time out every day to specially take care of.

This can be very frustrating!

Sometimes, you might notice it just when it begins to form right underneath your skin and is still barely visible. And there are times when you wake and there the pimple is, fully formed right on your face.

First you need to understand that there are a million and one reasons why that pimple is on your face.

Half of the time, it is not because you do not take proper care of your skin. Nevertheless, you need to also know that the basic cause for pimples are clogged pores. It could be caused by dirt, hormonal imbalance or the secretion of too much oil in your skin.

The good news however is that there are a lot you can do to make sure that the pimple doesn’t grow bigger than it already is. And I would explain it to you step by step in this article. So, when you first notice a pimple;

  1. Do not panic

This is very important. Doing so might make you take the wrong move which would only make things worse. So, keep calm. There is a solution for it and it can be easily gone if you play your cards right.

  1. Resist the temptation to squeeze the pimple

The truth is, you will be tempted to do just that. It is like an impulsive action, but make sure that you do not squeeze the pimple.

Since it is not a fully developed pimple, you cannot treat it like one. If you do so, you might give yourself permanent scars. In fact, squeezing the pimple will only help it grow bigger. And to top it up, the pimple becomes very painful, more than it already is.

Most of the time, a pimple is caused by dead skin cells and too much oil that clog your skin pores. When you squeeze the pimple, you make all that dead skin cells beneath your skin go a little deeper inside your skin.

Squeezing pimple is just bad, so do not try it!

  1. Get the pimple warmed up

It is important that you apply a warm compress to the affected area.

It sounds strange right?

I know. But it totally works. It helps to reduce the pain that the pimple causes.

The heat from the warm compress opens up your skin pores. The open pores give room for the bacteria causing the pimples to form to leave the skin.

Making a warm compress is easy.

Take a bowl of warm water and dip a towel into it. Squeeze out the water and place the towel on the part of your face that is affected. Leave it for about five minutes. Ensure that you do this every day until the pimple is gone.

  1. Apply anti-acne solutions

Now that your skin pores are open, there is no better time to apply treatments for the pimple. There are different acne solutions that you can get at the pharmacy or even online. You could use benzoyl peroxide which is an antibiotics treatment for acne.

Also, skin care products containing salicylic acid would be needed. Salicylic acid removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. You can also check out for Sulphur, retinoid and alpha hydroxyl acids. They help to exfoliate your skin and clear up clogged pores.

These acne solutions could come in form of gels, creams, face cleanser, lotions or facial scrubs. You can go for which ever suits you. Simply make sure your preferred “solution” contains some of these ingredients.

Would you prefer to use a more natural solution?
That is easy!
You can rub the Horse Oil Soap on your face after the warm compress, leave it for some minutes and wash it off later.
This will help kill the pimple(s).

  1. Put a bag of ice on it

This is mainly for the pain you might feel. When you put ice on pimples, it reduces the circulation of blood flow around that part of your face and then reduces the chances of the pimple getting inflamed. This in turn slows its growth and reduces its size.

In short, ice makes your pimples go down.

A bag of ice on the affected area also reduces redness which is caused by the pimples.

To make sure this works effectively, you should put few cubes of ice in a towel and place it on the affected area. Leave for 5 minutes.

You should do this three times daily.

6. Daily skin care routine

After you have taken the initial steps above, make sure you also;

  1. Wash your face twice daily. You need your face to be clean. However, be careful not to wash it too much. It might cause skin irritations.
  2. Moisturize your skin. Immediately you are done washing, use a moisturizer on your skin. Moisture keeps your skin healthy.
  3. Exfoliate your skin. This should be done at least once in a week. It would get rid of dead skin cells and help to generate healthy ones.
  4. Avoid touching your face. Your hands are easy carriers of germs. When you touch your face, you leave bacteria, which gradually works its way into your skin and results into pimples.
  5. Use skincare products carefully. Don’t use products that will irritate your skin. Pimples could pop up as a result of skin irritation.
  6. Cleanliness. Ensure that every item that comes in contact with your face is clean. Wash your handkerchiefs, pillow cases, etc. regularly.
  7. See a dermatologist. If pimples continue to appear frequently, even after you’ve tried all the tips given here, then you need to see a dermatologist for advice.

Final Thoughts

As long as your skin is exposed to different environmental conditions and you experience hormonal changes, pimples will always show up. It is important that you take very good care of your skin and make sure that you practice good hygiene.

Whenever you notice a pimple making its way through your skin, just follow the tips that I have listed above.

Take it a step at a time. Let this become a regular routine until the pimple finally disappears and even when it does, continue the daily skin care routine.

Trust me, pimples will stop being your problem.

  5. I started using this biore charcoal acne cleansing wash. And a lot of big fat painful pimples have been appearing on my face just days after I started using it. Is it as a result of the wash removing oil from my face that I’m breaking out or I’m just not meant to use it? I’m confused. I don’t know if I should continue or not

    1. That would depend on your skin. If for example, you have a dry skin and the soap makes your skin feel drier, you can get a moisturizer to support it.
And no, avoid toner or any other specially-made product.

But what exactly did you do that gave the improvement? Mind sharing?
